Beyond the West (BTW) was founded in 2020 by Chris Sheffield and Juliette Mutzke Felippelli in the light-filled landscape of Venice Beach. Their creative practice melds shared pleasures (the feel of a well-constructed leather jacket on their shoulders, just the right amount of foam on the lip of a cortado, morning paddle outs at Surfrider Beach, the perfect playlist, the first sip of Sangiovese on a Friday afternoon) with their complementary aesthetic in design, art, vision, and style.

With a combined professional design prowess spanning decades of experience, BTW has created cultural touchstones across creative disciplines. They have defined creative direction for industry legends including restauranteurs Michael Mina and Steven Starr, cultivated attitude for nightlife impresarios Amy Sacco and Rande Gerber, and activated hospitality concepts for global entertainment companies including Disney, MGM, and Virgin. They have designed indelible products that have been published and exhibited around the world including at Salone del Mobile and the MoMA Design Store.
